Suicide Prevention Toolkit 2017

Dear Community Leader,

We applaud you for taking a leadership role in preventing suicide by participating in National Suicide Prevention Month (September) activities, including the #askingsaves pledge. By accepting the challenge to do something about suicide in our community, you are a true leader.

This toolkit is intended to raise your awareness of the needs, and to inform you of the efforts that already exist in our local community. We hope you will see some of these efforts as opportunities to partner with us in making a difference. Between suicide intervention trainings, online awareness campaigns, Out of the Darkness Walks, and support groups…we believe real change is possible!

#askingsaves has been created by our local community as a way to raise awareness for suicide by using social media. The purpose of the challenge is to encourage people to pledge to check in on a friend or family member who you notice is exhibiting the warning signs of suicide. You can participate by writing #askingsaves on your hand and posting it to social media using the hashtag during the month of September. Then, you challenge a friend to take the pledge as well. Help us build on the success we experienced last year by reaching 1,000,000 impressions online. An #askingsaves flyer is included.

We have made great strides in our state and local community to prevent suicide in a short period of time, but we need your help to do more. Now is the time to mobilize our communities into action, and take control of the problems that create an increased risk of suicide. The goal of this toolkit is to provide community advocates, like you, with the necessary tools to develop and implement successful suicide prevention initiatives.

Everyone has a role in preventing suicide. We hope your role will be to help lead the suicide prevention movement within your community. Below you will find links to the 2017 Suicide Prevention Toolkit. We thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to supporting your efforts!
